When you are sick, it’s harder to concentrate or enjoy your daily activities. Unfortunately, allergy symptoms are akin to cold symptoms, so you can feel sick for weeks at a time! Instead of avoiding social situations due to constant coughing, sneezing or runny nose, learn how to deal with your symptoms effectively.

If your allergies act up in the summer, it is important that you keep your air conditioner clean. Air conditioners hold a lot of dust and mold, and if you do not clean them, your allergies are just going to get worse. Furthermore, try not to sleep right next to an air conditioner, as this can also make your allergies worsened.

Reduce your stress level. Stress can be a very significant contributor to allergies, even prolonging the length of attacks far beyond normal. If you suffer from allergies, try to minimize the level of stress you experience or find ways to effectively channel it out of your day. Lowering stress will have a positive outcome on your nagging allergies.

Shower before bed, taking special care to wash your hair thoroughly. Pollen, dust, and other allergens can get trapped on your skin and in your hair as you go through your day. If you normally shower in the morning, consider switching to an evening schedule. This will give you the chance to remove these irritants before bed, allowing you to have a restful night’s sleep.

While cleaning your home, avoid using feather dusters, which are notorious for stirring up all kinds of dust and allergens. Instead, gently wipe household surfaces with disposable dirt-grabbing cleaner or microfiber cloths. This ensures that you do not release clouds of dust, pet dander and other allergens into the air.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies, a good place to start would be trying over-the-counter medications. Be sure to choose the medication that is for your specific type of allergy. If you are unsure, there are medicines that treat all different types of allergies. Always be sure to follow the directions on the package.

Most people who are allergic to animal dander assume that dogs, and cats are the only pets that can cause problems in the home. With the exception of fish, reptiles, and amphibians, dander is universal among popular household critters. Ferrets, hamsters, mice, and birds are as likely to trigger an allergic reaction. Keep this in mind as you shop for your next pet.

If you like to go running, but you suffer from allergies, avoid windy days and go for your run later in the day. Wind tends to cause pollen to fly around. Also, the later hours of the day are when pollen is not as high, as other times of the day.

Take your garbage can outside your home for good. Trash cans in the home, especially in the kitchen, can attract insects and rodents. Rodent droppings can worsen your allergy symptoms. To keep mice out, keep your trash out. Be sure to set out different traps around the trash. If the traps don’t work, think about using poison or hiring an exterminator.

It is important that you watch what you eat and drinks, if you suffer from ragweed allergies. Believe it or not, certain foods and drinks can trigger your ragweed allergy symptoms. Some of the foods you need to avoid include cucumbers, bananas, sunflower seeds, melons, zucchini, and chamomile tea.

Use a laundry detergent that has a light fragrance. You can hang clothes outside to get that sun-kissed smell too. It also has the potential to meet up with spores or pollen. Only line dry clothes when pollen counts are low or you are sensitive to fragrances or dyes.

For food allergies, be aware of how severe the allergies are for those who suffer from it. Some kinds of food allergies can be so severe that even airborne particles of certain foods can trigger the allergies. Other food allergies can be so mild that the food can be stored in the house for others to enjoy without the allergy sufferer becoming affected.

If you are allergic to pollen, always wash your hair before you go to bed. When you are out during the day, pollen can accumulate in your hair. When you go to bed, the pollen will rub off onto your pillow, and will probably end up getting in your nose, eye, and month. This will cause your allergies to flare up.

If you have carpeting anywhere in your home, be sure to take the time to vacuum it a few times a week. Also do not be stingy when you purchase a vacuum. Spend a little more to get a good quality vacuum and make sure that it has a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter which will help trap allergens.

Don’t let your allergies take control of your daily life with a nose that is constantly itchy or throat causing problems. There are many different ways to cope with allergies, and it’s a very common issue today. Help yourself by remembering the tips in this article, and take control of your symptoms now!
