Allergies are an affliction faced by millions of individuals. The best way to combat the often, debilitating affects of seasonal and other types of allergies is to arm yourself with knowledge. Take the tips in this article to heart, and you will soon start to achieve real, lasting relief.

If you can, do not have carpet or rugs in your house. Rugs and carpeting are often never really clean, even if they look like they are. They collect dust mites, dust and other allergens that cause you suffering. Flooring that can be swept and easily mopped is best for allergy sufferers.

Know the outdoor plants you are allergic to and check the calendar! You should know this information, if you can plan outdoor activities. This way, you can plan them on what days you should be taking your allergy medicine or packing some with you for the day.

Watch the time, if you experience seasonal allergies. Pollen is most terrible between 5 and 10 a.m., and if possible, do not leave your home during these times. If you have to go out, do not do too much and make it fast.

If you have tried one or two allergy treatments with no relief, don’t give up just yet. You should try medications ranging from oral to herbal remedies. As an example, you might try an over-the-counter saline nasal spray or wash, eye drops for allergies, or prescribed medications, including leukotriene blockers or nasal steroids.

Most people who are allergic to animal dander assume that dogs, and cats are the only pets that can cause problems in the home. With the exception of fish, reptiles, and amphibians, dander is universal among popular household critters. Ferrets, hamsters, mice, and birds are as likely to trigger an allergic reaction. Keep this in mind as you shop for your next pet.

When looking at your local weather forecast, if you see that pollen is going to be high, take your allergy medication in advance. Why wait until pollen gets too bad to take your medication? Instead, take it in advance, so that you do not have to suffer when going outdoors for the day.

If you find yourself battling rhinitis or seasonal allergies to pollen and spores, you should always keep the windows in your home closed if possible. At the very least, close them between the hours of 5 and 10 in the morning; this is the time of day in which plants release higher concentrations of pollen.

You have probably collected allergens if you have been outside. This is why you should take a hot shower immediately upon returning from a long outdoor trip. If you can’t take a shower right away, at least do so before sleeping. A shower will cleanse you of any mold spores, pollen or other allergy-causing irritants. It is quite possible that they have lodged in your hair or on your skin.

If you find yourself battling with dull, chronic headaches, allergies may be to blame for your discomfort. Start looking for possible sources of allergens in your own home before looking for a more obvious cause. Common environmental controls include removing feather pillows and down comforters and replacing pillowcases with hypoallergenic covers. It also helps to wash your bedding weekly.

If you have allergies, one hidden danger to you may be the damp areas of your home. Places like basements and garages will harbor mold and instigate attacks, so either avoid these areas during the damp season, or see that they are thoroughly cleaned with a simple solution of bleach and water.

When you are traveling by car, try your best to keep the windows closed at all times during allergy season. On nice days, many people roll down their car windows to enjoy the weather, but you should avoid doing that and turn on the air conditioner if you need to feel a breeze.

Make sure your allergies are not trigger by a pet. Do you have any cats around the house? Sometimes cats can make people have allergic reactions, and they don’t even know it. Consider staying away from any cats for a couple of days to see if you notice a difference in your allergies. You might have to stay away from the cat from now on.

Talk to your doctor and see if they have any recommendations about what could be causing you to have an allergic reaction. They might help you realize that you have been exposing yourself to a new environment that is causing your body to react in a certain way giving you allergies.

There is no doubt that suffering from allergies can be a frustrating, irritating experience. However, it is not necessary to go without help. If you apply the guidance in this piece in your everyday life, it is, indeed, possible to keep allergies at bay and resume living the life that you truly desire.
